The Miami Fishery
Few coastlines pack this much variety into a single charter. Run south and you hit the flats and channels where snook and crevalle jacks hold near the mangroves. Run east past the markers and the bottom drops fast toward the reef line, where the Gulf Stream pushes warm blue water close to shore. That short run is why a half-day or full-day Miami charter can put you on so many species without burning the whole tank.
Offshore is where Miami earns its reputation. Sailfish stack up along the reef edge in winter, mahi and wahoo show up over the spring and summer color changes, and blackfin tuna mix in when the bait is thick. We match the method to the day - live bait and kite fishing when the current and wind line up, trolling when the fish are scattered and on the move.
Closer in, the wrecks and rock piles off Government Cut and the reef tract hold mutton snapper, grouper, and amberjack year-round. That structure fishing is steady and forgiving, which makes it a favorite for mixed-skill groups, and a session of vertical jigging over the wrecks puts a hard bend in the rod. When the bite shows on the surface, we switch to run and gun fishing and chase the birds and busting schools.
Miami also fishes well after dark. Summer evenings over the patch reefs are prime for mangrove and yellowtail snapper, and that calm-water trip is a great introduction for first-timers. Whatever the season, we build the day around what is actually biting and where the conditions point us.

Reading the Water Off Miami
Miami's biggest fishing variable is the wind against the Gulf Stream current. When a northeast wind blows over the north-flowing stream, the reef edge can stand up into a short, steep chop that is no fun in a smaller boat. On those days we fish the lee, work the bay, or tuck behind Key Biscayne for protected water - the same call we make for trips departing toward Key Biscayne.
Summer brings the opposite problem: glassy mornings that turn into afternoon thunderstorms by one or two o'clock. We push departures early to beat the buildup and keep an eye on the radar all day. Boat traffic is also real here, especially on weekends near the cut, so we time our runs and bottom drops to avoid the worst of it.
The payoff for dealing with these conditions is access. No other Miami departure point gives you flats, reef, wrecks, and blue water this close together.
